Slumdog Millionaire is the little film that could. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the big movie that could, but won't. Benjamin Button's stuck in the always a bridesmaid, never a bride mode. The fairy tale adventure film with a twist spent the awards season, which wraps up on Sunday with the Oscars, getting nominated by various critics groups and guilds. But curiously, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button never snagged any major awards. And I think the David Fincher film will continue along that same path at the Academy Awards.
Although it's going into the event with the most nominations at 13, Benjamin Button's likely to be left without a statuette to cling to in the acting, writing, directing and Best Film categories. However, I don't believe it will go home completely empty-handed. Benjamin Button has a good shot at earning a few Oscars for its behind the scenes team. There should be a few wins stemming from the work done by the effects team, makeup artist, choreographer, editors, and/or costumer.
Final Predication: Benjamin Button will end up scoring 3 Oscars out of its 13 nominations.
